Default overheating

My 88 5.0 is overheating. I have changed the thermostat which I have verified that it works. It has a new rad and the fan works. It has boiled over once already. There is no white smoke or discoloration in the oil. This is a rebuilt motor with only 5000 miles on it. What could be the problem? Also the coolant doesn't seem to be going down.

yea make sure the water pump is good. Check for play in the shaft, no leaks, etc. And make sure you put the coolant in with the heater running on high and the engine running....Hey, we all forget the simple things....my girlfriend did that and she was wondering why her jeep kept overheating...[sm=icon_stickpoke.gif]

Thanks guys, The water pump is only a few months old as well. I am pretty sure there are no air pockets. If it already boiled over once is it possible that my engine is damaged and further causing it to run hot? It also seems to crank over longer to start now since it overheated. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated!

i doubt your engine suffered any damage unless you let it get extremly hot.. hot enough to blow head gaskets. the fan and radiator you have, is the radiator designed to have air pushed through it or pulled through it? and does the fan match the radiator design?
