Quick Fuel Pressure Question

Quick Fuel Pressure Question
Hope this isn't a "Newbie" mistake!! I tried to search for the answer before posting the question, but wasn't able to find the answer.
I just installed a BBK 190 Fuel pump. I also put in a fuel pressure guage that is hooked up through the schrader valve on the fuel line by the alternator. I have a Holley adjustable regulator that I haven't put on yet, so I still have the stock FPR. When I turn the key "on" with the vacuum disconnected from the FPR, my guage shoots up to 40PSI and then drops to 35PSI and maintains. Is it normal for this to happen? Also, how long before the fuel pressure drops to "0 psi" after you shut it down?
Thanks for the help!
Mike

RE: Quick Fuel Pressure Question
That sounds normal. The length of time that it will hold that pressure will depdend on how good your fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump and other components are. I recently put in a new regulator because the old one wouldn't hold pressure for more than a few seconds. Now it holds pressure for hours.
