Default Broke my @#$@#$@# heater core!

Busted my heater core while replacing a hose. I have it bypassed right now, which will be ok for a while because I live in AZ. How much are they and how hard are they to replace?? AARRRGGHHH this sucks!

You're right it sucks. I had to replace mine. It involves removing the entire dash so you can get to the box which houses the heater core and AC. This is definitely not a fun job. It's not hard it just takes a lot of time and aggravation getting to the heater core. Maybe someone knows of a quicker way but I think that's it. Don't forget to keep track of where all the screws came from or you'll have a bunch of rattles down the road from missing screws.

the core itself is relatively cheap, it's all the work involved that costs the most. hot tip for you if you do it yourself- pressure test the new one first before you install it to make sure it don't leak too! I didn't do this with the first one I replaced years ago and it had a pinhole leak in it and I had to go back and redo all the work I had already done once to get it out and boy was I a mad sumbitch after that! You can hook the hoses up to it and use a pressure tester on the radiator to put pressure in the system to leak check it. do this with the fluid hot so the metal will expand and show up any leaks. after it passes this test, only then would I go through all the trouble to install it!

I did mine in october part was like $30.00 but it was a pain if your ac works your supposed to discharge it & disconect it but I know it will get flamed for this but what I did was take the dash 90% out so that you can pull it back on the pass side 2 feet then I cut a hole in the heater box & pulled the core out the hole (non ac cars have a door ac cars do not how f-in stupid is that) then I put the new core in & bondoed the door back on. took me 3 hours total & did not haver to get the ac charged.

You sir are in for a real nice treat. If you have air conditioning it sucks if no air its simple and takes about 20 minutes. You can avoid removing the dash by just loosening everything up and prying it back far enough to get inside which is what ive done on others luckily i dont use the heater core so mines emty and fine but ive changed a few and theyre a pain in your *** the first time.
