Oil Consumption

RE: Oil Consumption
My car uses a little under a quart/1k miles, yet runs mysteriously strong. I too am concerned about it, although I have read that some 5.0s burned oil straight from the factory, and that it is nothing to worry about. I've also heard that a little oil burning provides better cylinder lubrication. Regardless, I don't like my car using oil. What I'm curious about is how oil consumption progresses. I mean, might our cars run another 100k miles using the same amount of oil? Or will the consumption start to snowball? Everyone has a different opinion on the subject. Some say that a car should not use a noticeable amount of oil, and some say that anything under a quart/1k is normal. I don't know what to think.

270,000 miles on my moms 1989 5.0 5-speed and didn't use oil. She was easy on the car at all times and we did the regular maintainence deal (wires, plugs, oil, air filter).
