Default Ring gear and pinion install.

I picked up a 3.73 today and need to find out how the numbers stamped on the end of the pinion help set up the gear. Its not like what I am use to seeing in a sense. The way Dodge's set up is 0 , +1 , -1 and so on. If its 0 you use same size shim on the pinion. If its +1 then you subtract .001 from shim, and the opposite for -1. The numbers on this pinion are not anywhere close to this so i am cornfused " that is right I said coRnfused ". And please dont ask what the #'s are like a dumba** I left the gear set at the shop so I cant answer correctly. Looking for a how-to site i guess would be good to find if someone has one to share. Yes i googled it and didnt turn up anything worthy. Thanks in advance[&:]

[sm=nothatway.gif]....that's what happens when you hang around too many Dana's and Moped...sorry...MOPAR.....[sm=joke.gif] man.....the magic number for Ford's 8.8 pinion depth is 4.4199", Dana's are easier to work on due to the numbers stamped, as you mention, don't know why Ford makes it a little hard (expensive), b/c you have to invest in a pinion depth gauge to work in some cases......check the articles for the 8.8 axle at:
