ORIGINAL: waxyourboard

Depends on how the heads flow. Usually 4v heads (dohc) flow better and have better swirl characteristics than 2v heads.

Just for fun, the Yamaha R1 has a 1000 cc (1 liter) four cylinder DOHC engine. It makes 180 horsepower.

1987 Mercury Grand Marquis has a 5.0L eight cylinder. It makes 180 horsepower.
Yah, but it makes probably 10lbs of torque. That's not even a fair comparaison, that's comparing something top of the line to bottom. Why not compare an H.O., that'd be closer to a fair comparaison, or, better yet, a 426. 426 is puttin out 525hp and around 600lbs torque. Size to hp ratio the R1 engine will be putting out more, but, size to torque ratio, bet you the Hemi massacres it.

Besides, 302's are torque monsters, not hp. They have the basic building blocks for a 10k rpm hp monster engine with the big bore short stroke engine, but Ford tamed it down with heads, cam and intake.

new GTs do come with 300 hp but thier using 4.6 3v engines, which is alot of power but considering todays technology anything is possibly with small engines... 5.0 though monsters are out of date and need a revival with a little technology.
