Depends on how the heads flow. Usually 4v heads (dohc) flow better and have better swirl characteristics than 2v heads.
Just for fun, the Yamaha R1 has a 1000 cc (1 liter) four cylinder DOHC engine. It makes 180 horsepower.
1987 Mercury Grand Marquis has a 5.0L eight cylinder. It makes 180 horsepower.

Besides, 302's are torque monsters, not hp. They have the basic building blocks for a 10k rpm hp monster engine with the big bore short stroke engine, but Ford tamed it down with heads, cam and intake.

new GTs do come with 300 hp but thier using 4.6 3v engines, which is alot of power but considering todays technology anything is possibly with small engines... 5.0 though monsters are out of date and need a revival with a little technology.
