Default Extra clearance for lift

If I have a cam that has a .512 lift, will valve springs with a .542 lift be enough. what is the safe amount of play for the lift? Is the .030 going to be ok?

Thats fine. If you got springs that allow more you'd be running into other troubles.

as long as the coil spring doesn't go into coil bind you'll be ok. just check this closely at the install and make sure the springs don't go into a bind or you'll wreck the rockers, pushrods and lifters if they do.
