1994 5.0 EGR

RE: 1994 5.0 EGR
I made a plate to block the egr port, plugged the vacume line and took the senser out of the egr, and glued the plunger about half way in to trick the computer and plugged it back in. My egr was going bad, that is why I did it. My car runs great and I can run more timing.

The EGR system is used to lower oxides of nitrogen emission levels caused by high combustion temperatures. the EGR recirculates a small amount of exhaust gases into the intake manifold. the additional mixture lowers the temperature of combustion thereby reducing the formation of NOx compounds.
Too little or no EGR flow allows combustion temperatures to get too high during acceleration and load conditions. this can cause detonation, engine overheating or emission test failure.

How EGR systems work?... The EGR valve recirculates exhaust into the intake stream. Exhaust gases have already combusted, so they do not burn again when they are recirculated. These gases displace some of the normal intake charge. This chemically slows and cools the combustion process by several hundred degrees, thus reducing NOx formation.
