I got lucky on mine the shims that where already in the rear end put me almost perfect on the pinion depth and basklash. I am only like 1-2 thousandths away from the center of tolerance measurements. From what I have discovered most not all but most 3.73 gearsets usually use the same shims as 2.73.

Are Motive Gears junk?.........want to guess what the "M" at the end means in FRPP part number M-4209-G355M means?.........

I talked to Brent a while ago (brenspeed.com owner) and he said that the gears are great, and they are infact motive. I would trust brenspeed.com with any performance part, I order almost everything through them.

or, alternate Pinion Depth Gauge for Ford 8.8
I don't know how accurate the gauge alternative is, I'll let you know when I finally install my 3.90 Motive gears since I have both tools.....bought the cheap gauge to verify if it's a reliable/accurate way of installing/setting them quicker.
