Default what kind of ranny fluid, and oil

I'd like to throw some royal purple tranny fluid in, will the Dexron III/Mercon work in my stock t5?
I can't remember if it's supposed to have Mercon V in it or not, or what I need... lend me a hand!

I'm curious what kind of oil you guys run? I don't think I'm going synthetic yet, but I'd like to know what weight you guys run. It will only see the summer weather.

the dexron is what you want for your tranny.

synthetic is a waste of money, unless you start using it when the engine is brand new. even if its only got 5000 miles on it, there's no point in running synthetic -- as the regular oil is already laced on all of the moving parts and such

Straight 30 is wayyyy to thick... If you break down the numbers 10-30...5-30.... The oil viscosity is around 30 when the car is cold, once it warms up the viscosity is around 5 or 10 depending on the oil... I would definetly not put straight 30 in the car... IMHO

You couldn't be more wrong unless you stuck your ***** into moving lawn machinery. I have a 19 year old LX 5.0 and a 12 year old truck, both with original engines and both are kicking hard. I put synthetic in both, the LX had 50K on it when I switched, the truck got it from the get. The LX has been pushed to the limit with bolt ons, but her bottom end and heads and all the associated hardware are original. I just bought a new 06 and I can't wait to fill it up with synthetic, but I'm told I have to wait until I put a few grand on her.

BTW, for those concerned about oil ratings, synthetic flows so much easier that a 5-20 regular is about equal to 10-40 synthetic. Additionally, you can expect a 5 HP gain just by switching to synthetic.

So the Dexron III/Mercon will work then, great.
What weight oil do you guys run in your motor, non-synthetic? I think I've been using 5-30 but I don't remember, if I should be using something else, I'd like to know what to get.

Been running cars a long time, been using synthetic weights in all my performance vehicles. For summer I usally switch to a 10w-40, winter months usually a 5w-30. Dexron/Mercon III is the only oil to use in your T-5 tranny. Although, I recently did a clutch swap on a 93 Mustang that had been running 80-90w gear oil. Owner was wondering why the tranny shifted funny Got it all straightened out and now running the correct fluid.
