Running while keys out

Alright so my friend just started his car, it made a funny sound. So he tried to turn it off and the engine was still running.
So his engine is running with the keys out. The noise is as if he is still trying to start his car, but hes not... any help???

Sounds like the ignition switch could be messed up.

If it's the part in the steering column it's not that bad. I base that on my 85 though. No idea what year your talking about.

to change it, you need to take off the steering column cover, turn the key to the on position, not the start position, and there is a pin you press in on the side of it.
then it will slide out.
pretty easy.
