Default 140MPH cluster swap

i have an 87 Gt mustang with an 85MPH cluster. i just purchased a 140MPH cluster (out of an 88Gt) off of ebay and i'm still waiting for it to come. i was told i wouldn't need to tinker around with gears or anything and that it's just plug and play, my only concern is that the cluster itself might not fit. i looked at pictures of the cluster and compaired it again my own cluster in my car, and there are some differances in shape around the steering wheel. the cluster currently in my car is flat around where the steering wheel is, but the one i bought has much for of a curve. i should have researched this more throughly before i made the purchase, but too late now. i was just wondering if the cluster's going to fit the way it is, and if not, are there modifications that can make it fit?

hmm yeah that didn't even occur to me. guy must of lied in the item description of 87-89. i was looking on ebay and it looks similar to a 90-93 cluster. if it is one of those, do you know if the whole cluster would fit right in there?

All u really need to do is when u get your cluster with the 140 speedo is to just take out the speedo it self and replace it in your old cluster. Its not hard to do. But first check to see if the clusters hook up the same. I do know their are some minor differences with the 90-93 clusters but I want to say they all plug in the same.

All you have to do is swap in the 140mph speedo itself. As long as there aren't any gear differences you will be fine . If you are running gears just get the right size speedo gear for your set-up and away you go.

I did the same swap on my 86 and it swapped just fine. The problem is the new speedo isn't accurate. I'm told I need to replace a gear but I'm not sure which one. In the cluster or on the trans itself.
