Things like chamber size, piston design, piston height in relation to the deck and head gasket thickness all come into play.

RE: what pistons?
I just got done rebuiding my engine. I bought one of Sealed Power's engine rebuild kits. I totally recommend this kit for a budget build like I did. The pistons are Sealed Power Forged Aluminum Pistons that are 10.2.1 with 58cc combustion chambers. I have the heads milled 0.040 so it bumps it up 11.5.1 It sounds damn mean combined with the Z303 cam!

RE: what pistons?
i have a used set Fed. Mogul 273AP flat top with 4 valve relief pistons and brand new rings i will sell you for 100 shipped.
pistons were in my engine for about 10 k before i rebuilt it cause the rings never seated properly(bad machining)
