hey Tom. I'm in Anaheim. Not to far from you. you can try California Mustang in the City of Industry (about 20-30 minutes from you), Brothers performance in Corona (about 30 minutes from you) and so many other shops that you can pick up good thermostats from. but why does a thermostat matter so much?

Well, I think my stat crapped out on me. I'm not quite overheating, but I'm getting pretty close (getting close to the line over half way sometimes). This just started happening a few days ago, so I'm assuming it's either an air pocket, or a bad stat. I replaced the cap, but it didn't do anything.

My thing is, when something breaks, it would be nice to have a shop somewhere close by, so you could walk there and don't need to run the car, let it cool down for another 4 hours, and then work on it.

And I DID NOT know that those shops are so close by. I'll have to go out there to buy stuff when I get my temp problem sorted out.

Thanks PX.

I hear that you should stick with a 180, 160 wont let the engine operate at the right temperature.

get whatever came stock in it, which i believe was a 180. your engine preforms better at hotter temps anyways, why the hell would you stick a 160 in there?

at 160 deg the temp sensors are funtional and will go into warm loop...

any higher and the engine gets to hot.. 160 is fine

I freakin hate los angeles.

nothing but chain parts stores that don't carry anything but crap. I can't even find a decent stat at the parts stores around my house in hellywood. I have to special order a "race only" mr. gasket 180* stat from autozone and that'll take a week.

There's a single non-chain parts store I'll go to tomorrow on the West side that MIGHT have something.

Rediculous.

Where in LA? I got a 180* thermo from autozone, just regular nothing fancy or funny and I have no problems.

when i did mine i couldnt get the thing to seal right so it took me 2 days. i was using the sylicone stuff too. finaly got it to seal it was such a bitch i would recomend taking the t-stat housing and puting the t-stat on it and then the black sylicone on the gasket put the gasket on and let it dry to the housing for a while this way the t-stat sits right when you bolt it back on then put the black crap on the other side and bolt it up let it sit for an hour before you turn the car on
