You need that nut. The smaller one isn't even a pipe thread most likely. They use the 2 peices to seal it up. Kind of like a flange seal

what do u mean bushing???
ORIGINAL: BCP

ORIGINAL: 91lxstang

yea but i dont have the nut on top.... and my gauge is the pro comp but its the same other than the top nut(smaller one) isnt on mine
The bottom part is the bushing that is required to adapt the nut thats on the sender to the threaded hole in the intake manifold. So the smaller one should be on yours as that is the one that the tube for the sender goes through. I really dont recall seeing a grommet in there, but I dont have an actual gauge in front of me too look at either. You did use a bushing in the intake?

The bigger one goes into the intake, then the probe sit inside that. The probe has a ring around it so it wont slip thru yhr bushing adaptor and it keeps the smaller nut from comming off. That ring around the prob is there so when you tighten down the smaller one it will pinch it there and seal it tight. I just went thru the same thing

Your ring around the prob might be a little different, but you will need the larger nut that is threaded on the inside and the outside. You shoun't be able to lose the smaller one, that is on the probe(probably the one you are trying to use)I would go back to where you got that one and get a different one.
