Default electrical problem

my 94 has just had a new alternator put in and i noticed that the volt meter jumps around at idle, and when i have the stereo on and the head lights on all the lights dim and some times the speakers will shut off and then come back on, when i rev the engine this all goes away, and yesterday when i started the car up my stereo was makeing this deep bass buzzing noise, like a droan, the stereo works fine when the car is off when the key is in the run position, but when the car is running it makes that strange noise, what could this be?, i also have absolutly no horse power past 3000rpm, a miata passed me and i couldnt keep up if i wanted too, i noticed more flow coming out of the left side exhaust and iv heard that the cats clog very easily, so i orderd shorty headers and a new downpipe and x-pipe with new cats, what else could be causing the problem that im experiencing, and also the transmission wines alot in every gear but 4th, with the cluch depressed at idle it makes no noises, when i engage the clutch with it no being in gear it starts to make a whineing noise, so i believe that something along the lines of the input shaft being out of whack or something like that, any ideas would be apreciated,
Thanks
Ted

Did they test the alternator before putting it in... maybe it's a bad one?
I bought mine at Autozone refurbished and they have a machine to test them at the store.

Did your new one come with a new voltage regulator on the back?
If that's bad you would be experiencing the jumps in voltage.

It's proly not large enough to keep up w/ the electrical demand. Are you running under drives? I would have it checked.
