flexplate/starter gear hitting?
i posted a few times about a rattling noise coming from the tans/motor area i pulled the motor to fix an oil leak and when i put it all back together and started it up i got a really loud rattling noise from where the trans and engine bolt together i figured it was the flexplate so i pulled the motor again and sure enough the teeth on the flexplate are grinding off the teeth are damaged on the engine side of the flexplate the only thing i would think that could cause this on the engine side of the flexplate would be the starter gear it seems that my block plate had flexed in the sun and somehow caused an alignment problem with the starter im assuming from what i have been told from a friend is the starter gear is not disengaging once the engine starts and its remaining locked to the flexplate which would explain when i took it for a spin i couldnt get up past 35 mph as if the motor was now turning the starter instead of the starter turning the engine like it does when you first engage it my question is does this seem like an accurate piece of information or has anyone had this problem before ? all of the teeth are worn about the same all the way around the flexplate so i know i put it on correctly and i have seen no marks on the bellhousing or anything else i also looked at the starter and seen no marks of any kind the starter gear is on the inside? so can i pull it up with say a screwdriver to check the gear at the bottom of the gear? thanks for any help
