Default Temp. Problem, I need help.

Well to make a long story short, my car has weird temp issues. Its never overheated but The highest its gotten while daily driving it is the halfway mark. Im not sure what degree that is but its not normal. Just simple things as turning the headlights off will make the needle go down a bit. Its just weird because I am really careful while driving my car, I shift at 2k every time and then the temp goes up. Do you think I need a new thermostat? I already filled it up with new coolant from Peak. Should I get a 180* thermostat? I heard that those will mess up the computer though and make the engine wear out early. Also I barely use my A/C because the temp goes up quickly while its on. Thanks

Check out Autometers site.
They have some nice gauges and a couple of options for installing, I think?

It does sound like you are having an e- issue with the stock gauge (based on the reading changing when you turn on/off the headlights).
Even if this was not the case however, the stock gauges are not known for their accurracy.

By the way the needle should be in the middle of the gauge. If the gauge was accurate, that would correspond to 195-205F.

A 180F stat will not significantly impact either the computer or the longevity of the motor. Just keep your coolant temps above the 170F range.
