RE: Alternator from 97 5.0 Mountaineer
Sure, tell me how much and i'll see what I can do.
But anyways I was sitting at the park lastnight with a friend of mine and we were talking for 20 minutes, drove to Sonic and back and I took notice my headlights seemed slightly dim. Well I parked and left the car running as we sat and talked. He moved away to college and hadn't seen him in awhile. Anyways My tachometer stopped working, and my battery gauge started running down and the lights started to dim. I throttled it up in neutral and the lights got brighter and the tach and battery gauge went back to normal, but quit as soon as I left off the throttle. Are the bushings going bad in the alternator?

sounds like you were setting the mood for your buddy.....LOL J/K
I would just buy a brand new alternator .. not a remanned one, a lot of new ones come with lifetime replacement warranties. jmo
So did you get lucky?

[&o] No.
And when I got home I popped the hood and my lights we're almost out but the car was running fine. I got back in after checking the connection and my radio and guage cluster quit working. []

check the alternator output, it should be putting out about 13-14 volts , but the car will run on 8-9 volts and not support the electrical system very well, if its below 11.5-12.5 time to replace it. Is your serp belt slippin? not likely but just checkin, had it happen on my ranger...
