Greetings Wise Ones !

I have a wonderful 1990 ( stock ) 5.0HO/AOD....In an'89 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon. The Ford PS pump worked fine, but it was noisy. Since it had 150k on it, I replaced it ( on recommendation from another V8 VolvoGuy ) with the Summit AGR Supershiny Deluxe pump w/pulley. Well, it works fine, but its still noisy !! Details: The ( Volvo ) rack is fine, steering performance is fine, using ATF w/Lucas additive. I'm told this system is "open" , and I've driven it s couple hundred miles so far, so air in the system shouldn't be a problem...Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated ! The car runs fantastic otherwise...

i think just about any ford has a noisy PS pump

 

i'll second that...my mustang and all my friends mustangs make a bunch of PS noise.[&:]

 

YEah, youll just have to deal with that. IT comes with the territory but on a lighter note if it gets worse you can flush the power steeringsystem and see if it helps. Chris

 

My old one made noise. My new one does too.

 

I have changed the fluid to the newer Mercon 5, has quieted it down a whole lot (stock pump, rack, everything from 1988). Gotta love synthetic fluids.
