need help w/ gear selection

RE: need help w/ gear selection
Id say go with 3.55 if you really need to get a gear. 3.73 are good for an AOD. Personally, Id never go with that steep of a gear. I like my 3.27, I run mid 13's with it. I dont see the point of the 3.73, I go sideways when I nail third why would I want a gear thatll give me LESS traction on the street.
And goose, why be such a wuss, why didnt you get a 4.56 gear? Thatll give you the most acceleration, right? And the gas milage wont be THAT much worse than a 4.10. right?
I love how people just regergatate info theyve heard on here. The 4.6 needs a steeper gear cuz it has no torque, the 5.0 does not cuz it has tons of torque (relatively speaking).

im going with 3.55 because ill probably almost never goto the track i do alot of highway driving. 3.73's are annoying if you do alot of highway because your rpms are higher and all you hear is RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR from the exhaust. its everybodys choice to put what they want but id go by what i said, as far as gas theres not much of a diff how much it guzzles with the gears. i guarentee its cutting your motor life down alot with 3.73's if you do alot of highway driving.

RE: need help w/ gear selection
I'm not a huge fan of a steep gear so I'd say 3.55s also. From what I've been told there is very little difference between 3.55s and 3.73s. I dont think one gear is going to be better against the M3 than another anyway. I ran my friend's '99 M3 on the highway and it was pretty much dead even. My car is a lot heavier than yours and I noticed a big diff goin to 3.55s, I think it is a great all around gear. At like 62mph I'm turning 2000rpm right now, I personally am glad its not any higher.

I drive on the Highway Every Day. I have 3.55's and like them. I think it's a great gear; I think 4:10 are too much for the damn street. You have to shift to damn much, not that it's bad, but it isn't the funniest. <-- real word?
