Auto trans fluid flush

Auto trans fluid flush
I'm getting the itch to drain out the tranny fluid in my 95 GT. It's an automatic and it's never been done, although I'm still below the 30k mark. I've done this on my Volvo 850 myself but never on the 5.0.
From what I can gather I can get it flushed at a quick change place, but of course they don't touch the filter. The other method is to drop the pan myself and replace the filter, although you only get about a 1/3 of the fluid out this way. Is the filter replacement that important. ?? The quick change place tells me that even the dealerships don't mess with the filter.
Any advice would be appreciated. btw, the fluid looks good colorwise - I'm just anxious to get a good synthetic in there. Thanks guys.

RE: Auto trans fluid flush
well, you could flush it, have it filled w/ synthetic, then replace the filter yourself. yeah you'd waste a few qts of expensive oil, but it would be done right.
no other suggestions really, all the oil companies used to say not to mix syn w/ conv cuz the conv would break down the syn. now they mix it themselves....so was it a plan to get people to buy synthetic ? or are they trying to at least sell a little more of it ? i don't know, but i don't mix it myself.

RE: Auto trans fluid flush
Its not a bad idea to change your trans fluid every 30k, a flush is definitly the best. As for the synthetic, AMSOIL has a million mile guarantee on theirs, and as for how to change it, have it flushed with synthetic, then change the filter yourself, if you use a clean pan and catch all of the fluid, you can just reuse it.

RE: Auto trans fluid flush
do not take it to get flush as I have seen them let the pump run dry.....what I do is I pull the return hose off the rad install a nipple(brass) in that hole attach a hose put other end in a buckets start car trans will pump out old and you can pour in new at the same time..this does use more fluid but this comes the closest to not being able to drain the convertor
