+1 vac gauge is the key to tuning your carb, then get a O2 sensor for the exhaust and monitor it on hard accel, it'll tell you if your rich or lean then get the jets that get it a hair bit rich and GO.http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I've been working eith with carb's for 40+ years.......
1) install the carb as it comes from Holley, do not '**** dick' it.
2) If you got a vac secondary, wait till you got the heads/cam in it and then get a vac secondary adjustment kit, it'll be $40-50 busks. it's the deal with the **** thing on the diaghram (your carb, not her) and then start having fun.........

I'm so use to tuning classic cars, with holley 4150's and no o2's, this O2 sensor thing is so new to me.[&o]

Its actually pretty cool you basically maximize the efficiency of the carb and engine... almost as good as fuel injection, with the added benefit of knowing when you have a vac. leak with a carb/o2 monitor. Unfort. you have to do the adjusting not the computer.

If i try the 02 sensor as well what do i do with that. Where would i plug it in the exhaust. The carb seems to run ok now im just having an idle problem. When the car first starts it revs up to about 2k RPM so it will warm up faster and then when i give it gas it will kick down to about a 800RPM idle. Then when i start driving and come to a stop the car will idle at around 1250RPM and i have to gas it to get it to idle right. I cant figure out what causes this. i have tried the idle screw but that hasnt fixed, i believe it has to do with the choke but im not sure. Im hoping i will be able to fix this problem and then learn how to tune it good. So far you guys have given me awesome ideas. Thanks.

Your fast idle cam screw is in too much and not letting the throttle close fully back it out in 1/4 turn incriments till the prob goes away

ok i'll give that a try tomorrow. i will also pick up a vacum gauge and o2 sensor. This isnt just an O2 sensor that screws into the exhaust is it?

yes but you should get the kit with monitor... Personally the vac gauge has worked well for mild modded engines and no jet replacement is needed if your modded to h*ll and back then go for the O2 setup.

Usually Holley's come jetted rich from the factory. But like the guy before said...run it a tad bit rich. Just to be safe. Going lean and detonating isnt a good thing. 650 is a little on the big end for a mild 302, usually 580-600 is plently. But it shouldnt be that much of a problem.
