I've been working eith with carb's for 40+ years.......
1) install the carb as it comes from Holley, do not '**** dick' it.
2) If you got a vac secondary, wait till you got the heads/cam in it and then get a vac secondary adjustment kit, it'll be $40-50 busks. it's the deal with the **** thing on the diaghram (your carb, not her) and then start having fun.........

RE: basic carb tuning?
yeah i havent touched the jets at all yet, i figured i would try to learn the basics first. Im assuming that the fast idle screw effects the idle. i have tried playing with that and have put the idle to as low as 600 when i first start the car. even then the idle still sticks at around 1250 when i start driving and come to a stop. anyone one have any other ideas. And does anyone know how much the O2 monitor costs?

K. Now that is established, I was kind thinking all the fancy tools no good, if you cannot troubleshoot old school. You are off to a good start young Jedi, but I would get the Holley manual. I do like the idea of plugging that mother in and seeing how it handles itself, if it is properly applied they usually are somewhat foolproof anymore.

One thing I forgot to mention, use only genuine, real Holley parts in/on your carb.
