Can't Keep the Doors open!
Hey guys-
Well, got all the dried up maggots and dog hair cleaned from my original 86 i got from the tow yard. Well, trying to rip the junk carpet out and the soors kept coming back and smacking my legs. Time to fix that problem.
Can someone tell me how i can fix the doors to keep them open half way. The mechanism looks different from the driver to passenger side (the drivers has an extra plate neer the cylinder shaped piece of the nylon. Is that normal or is the pass. side missing something?
What should i start to replace to keep those doors open?
thanks

RE: Can't Keep the Doors open!
the door hinges may be worn, on my truck i use a jack stand with a towel over the top and just slide it in under the door panel on the inside of the door, my vert doors stay open on level ground. Check to see if the alignment is correct when you shut the door, if theres a lil sag just before it catches then the hinges are worn. Sorry

Yea my 93' GT does the same, so don't worry about it, it sounds like a common problem.
Solutions:
1. Use the "jack and towel" method as the other guy suggested (wow that sounds kinky)
2. Take the doors off!
3. New hinges
4. Or just get lambo's hahaha
I will admit it is a b!tch when your trying to clean up inside of the car, my own home remedy is to just take a foldable chair, wrap it with an old t-shirt or towel as the other guy had in mind, and wedge it inbetween the car and the door, but not too hard, we're trying to hold the door open not play mr olympia!

Mine also do the same thing on my 93. I checked out everything to see if anything needed to be replaced but nothing jumped out. It really is a paint in the a$$ sometimes though.

Hte problem is the spring on the bottom hinge is shot or broken off. Its just a little peice of metal that the little nylon roller runs on. You might be able to replace the roller and fix it if you still have the spring. If not then the bottom hinge will have to be replaced. Our's were working fine until my stupid droher desided to move the car around with the door open (idiot!).
