Default 185 AFR's on a 302???

Would 185 afr's be to big for a 302. I want to get the heads first then have a 347 or 331. What do you guys think?? Should I wait to buy a cam after the stroker??? Please help....

you could run them now. It would be good to get a cam with the heads but i would also wait till ya stroke it then you can most likeley run more lift with aftermarket pistons. But my advise would be to wait and do it all at the same time.

I currently have 185's on my 302. Its been bored over to a 306. Its currently being robbed by having too little of a cam in it but it makes good power.

from what i have been told you need to notch the pistons for clearance and they will work just fine

they'll work, but thats WAY too much head for a 302. if you plan on doing a 347 soon then go ahead, otherwise just get the 165s and sell them and upgrade when you're ready to poke and stroke (or just keep the 165s, they'll work awesome on a 347). but 185s are extreme overkill on a 302, you're going to hate them if you dont end up stroking your block and building a huge HP engine.

I actually bought the car with them on it. Havent been into the motor. It was used at the strip and then the guy put a smaller cam and some 3.08 to drive on the highway. Ive since purchased it and drove it a little. I think the C4 is slipping but it makes pretty good power never the less.
