3mpg???? PLEASE HELP
K so i just ripped out the engine and cleaned up some leaky areas and put it back in the 1986 mustang gt. I drove it yesterday and the gas mileage is horrible. 60 miles on one tank.... so like 3 mpg. i k the engine is pushing way to much fuel into it cause at and below around 2000 rpm the car chugs really bad. i am new to fuel injection and so i just dont know what to do. I need to drive the car to work daily and at this cost i wont be able to much longer. what should i do???
yea, if you don't already have a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, get one and have you or someone install it with a gauge. I have one and if you turn it up too high, you'll run too rich and it'll do that. stock psi on the fuel lines is like 39. I turned it down before and I got better gas mileage. But it might be somethin bigger like he said.
i got 24# injectors and i run 38 at idle and around 42 at WOT. I played around with it for along time, but that seems to be where my car likes to run, right around in there. Plus my car runs a tad bit rich, where it should be.
put the car on jack stands, rest your foot on the gas pedal and drive it until the motor stops, then you'll find out how many miles you really went, chances are your guage is shot or the fuel regulator/fuel pump is messed up. what injectors are you running?
