I did it. I got 15miles before i ran out in normal driving at about 45mph, i didnt over heat and my fuel pump is still a pumpin away. Doing it once aint gonna hurt anything. I cant even being to tell ya how many times ive ran out of gas in my Explorer, probably 10 times in the last year...my fuel float is broken and i couldnt figure out how many miles i could go on a tank, im to lazy to tear the tank out and replace it. But its got the stock FP and about 138,000 miles on it. Still a pumpin also.
great way to overheat and burn up the fuel pump!!!

its still a dumb!@$ thing to do the gas is the coolant: like antifreeze is to ur engine!
Just running out and cutting the car off...there you go. 1 gallon of gas will keep it cool for 10minutes that its going to take to travel like 10 miles. As long as gas is passing through it its fine. As soon as it stops passing through it the engine shuts off and the pump stops running.

K so i just ripped out the engine and cleaned up some leaky areas and put it back in the 1986 mustang gt. I drove it yesterday and the gas mileage is horrible. 60 miles on one tank.... so like 3 mpg. i k the engine is pushing way to much fuel into it cause at and below around 2000 rpm the car chugs really bad. i am new to fuel injection and so i just dont know what to do. I need to drive the car to work daily and at this cost i wont be able to much longer. what should i do???

In fact the pressure is the same now as when you pulled the motor, so I don't see how that is your problem.
Pull the codes or hit AutoZone and have them do it.
If I was a betting man, I would say that you probably left a sensor unplugged, or have a very significant vac leak.
As an aside...
The above post by Fox is correct.
The ONLY way to ACCURATELY check fuel economy is to fill the tank to full, and read the odometer.
All the other methods will not provide accurate results due to small samples (both fuel and miles). This increases the percentage of error to an unnacceptable range.
Running the motor out of fuel is not the way to do it. This will put un-needed stress on the pump. It won't burn it up right away, but why would you voluntarily strain your fuel pump that way.
Also, there are safety implications to driving a car while the engine dies.

As long as your not sitting there priming the engine for like 15 minutes with no gas in the tank...its not going to hurt anything.
