Default correct plug gap

i went to this site and found the decal that is missing off my car. turns out plug gap in my manual is wrong they say .042.its .052-.056
for a 87 302.

.052 is typical for a HO 302

but, gapping anywhere under is fine and sometimes better , if your ignition starts to break up at hi r's, the plug will still fire good w/ say a .045" gap
there will be no real loss of hp by going less, but could be by going more.

if you have a 1000 hp motor, yes you'll notice 10 hp or so diff from a a small gap

I always gap mine @ .054.... Also, doesn't it also depend on your compression ratio?
