Default Refilling Conv. motor?

I have a 87 GT conv. and my top started going up slow and someone told me to fill my top motor up with type A transmission fluid. Has anyone tried this. Did it make a difference and where does the fluid go?

Also, refilling the top does make a difference. On my old '88 Vert my top would not go up or down by itself, had to have a set of extra hands manually pull on the top while I pushed the switch. I refilled the motor with transmission fluid (can't remember what kind) and it worked flawlessly for over 3 years (Car was sold)

Yeah - just refill it if it still works. You need to make sure that the screw/piston-thing in the conv top motor is all of the way to one end of the motor first. I believe the proper way to do this is to use the motor to put the top down on the car, then remove the motor and refill. In that position, you can refill the motor all of the way. If you try to fill the motor after putting the top up, then the piston-thing is in the wrong position and blocks the fluid from going in and you really can't even refill it. It is a PITA to remove the motor with the top down, but you can do it... I did it not to long ago to my 7-Up 5.0 and it's been smooth-sailing ever since.

Good luck!
