So I just got my clutch replaced about a month ago. It felt great when I first picked the car up, and feels ok now, but the pedal requires a hair more effort. I've been having this popping sound all day today while driving. It started a couple days ago, but then stopped completely. Today, I got down and watched the quadrant while pressing the clutch with my hand, and realized that it's not the quadrant or anything inside the car. The sound is coming from the clutch area...under the car. It sounds like someone is tapping the bellhousing with a wrench and it is going "tink" everytime I push down the clutch. Any ideas what this might be?
sound like you should have replaced the imput bearing housing aka the snout of the trans
ford has problems with the factory ones new ones are made of steel
Maybe the throw out bearing is gulled up/sticking on the bearing retainer? The stock one is aluminum and is prone to wear
+1 the retainer is never replaced as 'part of the clutch' Unfortuneatly it gets overlooked almost EVERY time.
Twisted: The retainer is the sleeve thing on the tranny's input shaft. If the TO is binding on that you would get a thumping or tinking sound. If you replace it, get a steel one instead of the aluminum.
Mine does the same thing, as a matter of fact alot of my mustangs have done this. I have no clue what it is but I am sure it is not anything to be concerned about
