yea, like twotonevert said, check it with an external gauge before blaming it on the cooling system. I had no idea it was a stock gauge or that would have been my first suspect, just take one of those long thermometers like you use in a turkey and stick it in the radiator. That should give you an idea of where you are on heat.

Never heard of that....wax melting then it opens? If the wax melts to open there is no more wax...so how does it keep operating when the wax is melted?

As long as the engine at operating temp, the wax stays melted in the, "pill box", and the t-stat is open. When the engine cools, the wax hardens and closes the t-stat. It is supposed to be accurate to within 2 degrees. However, it says right on the packaging, race use only. So, I dont know, I am grasping here.
