whiteout 5.0

I have an 87 gt 5.0 AOD , at about 3grand and above you hear a rattle. Outside the car you can hear it even over the flowmasters. It's not a tick its not a ping its a rattle and my buddys 87 notch 5 speed does it too. Whats the deal? Both motors are just basic boltons.

I have sort of the same problem, but it doesn't happen all the time. Mine is more of a scraping sound around 4,000+. It's not pinging, it's not detonation, and like I said, it doesn't happen all the time. I'm stumped

The car doesnt sputter while rattling. It's pretty damn quick for my first car. But I've only heard it in '87 stangs. Then again there aren't many 5.0's around here. It's not a ping ive expierienced pinging before in other cars its not knocking and there's no hesitation and its not from my oil because i change it every 1500 miles (its free for me)
