Steering Help Please!
Ok, basically I need to replace the rack and pinion and power steering pump in my car.
How hard is it to install and what are the best products for the most reasonably priced?
I've replaced the pump about 2-3 times with cheapy's and I’m sick of them going out or whining like a baby,
and my rack and pinion is leaking like the sieve.
Also, whats the dif between offset and non offset bushings, and would i better off going with a manual?
How would the car handle and turn with a manual rack?

RE: Steering Help Please!
I would recommend a NEW replacement for the PS pump as the gears are what cause the whine and normally aren't replaced with rebuilt units. Rebuilt Rack is fine since they usually just have seals that go bad (like what you've got). I don't have a recommendation for either in terms of brand though.
DO NOT go with a manual rack if the car is a daily driver. It's like going with manual brakes. A bunch of effort for nothing and tight turns will be a real PITA.

You might be able to get a ford rack that has been rebuilt from either the dealer or at an auto parts store. I have one that I could sell you also. Dont really know the shape of it but its a rebuilt ford unit.
EDIT: I just went and looked at it and its in good shape. The tie rods (inner) are good (no slack) it hass the tubes on it (both fluid lines and the air tube) the boots are in good shape, It works really well and it still has teh steering shaft attached. It is a rebuild ford unit. I found 2 date cobrs on it one was 80 and the other was 85. Should work for 79-93. Let me know if you interested.
