Default Please help guys!

The short version: I got my clutch replaced a month ago. It works great, but two weeks ago, I started getting a single popping sound everytime I pushed the clutch down--even when the car was off. I checked the cable and quadrant, and both were fine. I took the car back to Aamco, and they replaced the bearing retainer. I got the car back and the noise was gone. I drove the car for a week, and then yesterday, I was sitting in stop and go traffic, and the noise came back. When I parked the car last night, it was making the noise everytime I pushed the clutch down. Then, this morning, I went out and pushed the clutch in a bunch of times, and it wouldn't make the noise. The noise is coming from under the car, and sounds like someone tapping the bellhousing with a wrench everytime I push the clutch in. What could be causing this? Is there anything in the actual clutch that could be causing this?

Maybe the clutch fork is popping up against the bellhousing when you press the clutch in. Where it sticks out through the bellhousing?

Do you have a firewall adjuster?

Thanks fellas. No, I don't have a firewall adjuster. So it may be the clutch fork, huh? It sounds like either one of the tabs on the pressure plate being tweeked somehow, or one of those two little prongs that the release bearing rides on. I mean that's the quality of the sound--like some thin piece of metal is being plucked. Incidentally, when they replaced the clutch, they found that one of those release bearing prongs was chewed up. I have no idea what could have caused this though. I just would hate to have to bring it back in and have them drop the tranny again, as I hate to have people messing with my car.

A couple more questions: One, which part is the clutch fork. I'm looking in my manual, and it doesn't list this part. Is it called anything else? Two, so you don't think it's anything wrong with the clutch itself...like an installation problem or something? Thanks again.

The clutch fork is what sticks out of your bell housing.. the "fork" is inside an what the throwout bearing attaches to...

Thanks Randy. So I think my Chilton's manual calls the clutch fork the "lever assembly," and the throwout bearing the "release bearing." Does that sound right?
