Default RE: ethanol

i was worried about this as well especially since my stang is tuned for 93 octane but from what i've read ethanol should increase the octane count if anything. and whoever said use octane booster.... do some research that doesn't do sh#t to increase the octane count. read up on what octane acutally is and means and you will understand

i road tested the car even drove it with the hood off since i was fitting a cervini one on there anyway and heard no detonation on 87 octane with 15*...now it knocks like hell i went to a getty and it isnt much better...ethanol is just a substitute for raw gasoline...alls it does according to a star ledger article is lowers gas milage and give you worse performance however its better than diluting the gasoline with water and its combustable. it makes gas prices cheaper. and makes my stang knock. i went back to the getty with ethanol today and got 89 octane not as bad...i kicked down the timing down to 14* today and im going to have to run 93 octane. oil companies suck

10% ethanol will not affect the way a car will run in most cases. My guess is that your running too much timing as it is. We in the Chicago area have been running the 10% stuff for years and I have not seen any differance.

ethanol has an octane of 100 read it in popular science. had a whole story on ethanol in gas. that only thing that suck about ethanol is it loww gas miles because the btu rating is 90,000 and gas btu rating is 127,000. They would use ethanol only but it will not cold crank your car. that is wrer the btu's come in.

You guys are all missing the point here. A 10% ethanol blend is so little that nothing is going to be affected. Simply put it in your car and drive, it's no big deal.

down here in houston, texas gas has dropped nearly 50 cents thanks to 10% ethanol. so now its only $2.50 for 87 octane. but i get 89 octane and its $2.60-$2.70 depending where you go.
