Default T5 Compatibilties for a 94' GT

I'm looking for a good tranny to replace my "Cracked" T5 in my 94' GT. Am I limited to just the 94-95' Stang donors?

What is cracked? The case? Yes you are locked in to a 1994-95 model because the input shaft and the bearing retainer are 17mm longer than a fox body. If your case is cracked but everything else is ok the cases from a fox and SN95 are the same. The 4 cylinder fox cases are the same also.

Yeah, The tail shaft casing has about a 6inch long crack in it from me clutch dumping in first at 5K froma stop. I haven't removed it yet, so the condition of the internals are unknown. I thought I just as well buy a whole different tranny....just wanted to get the right one. It's a damn shame because I just had this one rebuilt last year... oh well... You play hard, you fall hard.

The tailshaft is the same as the foxes also. If you broke the tailshaft housing I would be checking your transmission mount or motor mounts. Something is in a bind. I have dropped the clutch at 5000 rpm alot with slicks and never broke the case or tailhousing. If you just had it rebuilt replace the tailhousing, look everthing over, reset your bearing preloads, and start dropping the clutch again.

Motor mounts were bad... Thats what caused the binding of the tranny... aluminum is strong... but not that strong. I'm taking it out tomorrow to inspect the internals. Does any one know where I can get a tail shaft housing at? All the junk yards up here don't even have a 5.0 pony sitting around... must say something about Mustangs longevity. [&:]

I dropped the tranny today, the internals look fine. I inspected the motor mounts a little closer and found that they too look fine??? My motor vibrates heavily but doesn't appear to be mis-fireing at all. It's basically stock so no major horses would be causing it either. The vibration definately cracked the housing. Can anyone give me any hints with what might be causing this stangs case of the shakes? P.S. THANKS 92GreyGT for the tailshaft housing... probably saved me from having to buy a whole other tranny.

I would replace the motor mounts if they are the originals, they will look good and still be the cause of the problem. They aren't that expensive, I'm not sure how hard they are to install on an SN95 car but in a Fox it's no sweat. If you drive the car alot I wouldn't put poly mounts in they transfer alot of vibration to the car. I have them and regret it. If the mounts aren't the problem then I would look at the harmonic balancer.
