Default Engine Test

I have an 85 mustang GT with a 90 motor and a 91 T5 tranny. I want to get a tool that will spit out codes for what is wrong with the engine but i do not know which kind of tool to get. Does anyone know what i should get for my motor?

blue oval, most autozones only have the capability of pulling codes from a vehicle with OBDII or newer
