Worn Valve Guides/Burning Oil
I changed the title of my post to hopefully get some more assistance.
My 90 GT is burning oil bad...it blows thick black smoke from the tailpipes at start up and the inside of the tailpipes are black gunk...not like running rich..like burning oil. I since blew the supercharger so I have stopped driving it and was going to rebuild the motor and blower this winter. I also heard a high pitch noise like a vacuum leak which I could never find. I found the following post ..can anyone else confirm this. I might just get new heads and put it all back together...
Thanks
The valveguides are worn on your heads. That's what the high pitch noise is. The noise is air seeping into the combustion chambers. It's also why your motor uses so much oil.
Your rocker geometry is likely the culprit but isn't the only thing that will wear out valve guides. If your rockers don't sweep a pattern in the middle of the valve tip, it's puts a lot of side load on the valve guide, and will accelerate wear. I need to have my heads worked too so don't feel bad.
