Another Sad Day
Well, its has been one of those days for me. I was getting ready to put my 95gt in the shop to change the wheels and tires on it. I let my friend take the car up the road while i was moving the motorcycles out of the shop to make room for the car, he stayed gone for a while, when he pulled back up he was shaking his head saying "I don't know what happened". Popped the hood and the overflow for the antifreeze was bubbling like crazy, I checked the Temp gauge and it went up to about half? WTF? We waited for a few minutes and started the car and had White smoke pouring out the tail pipes. Head Gasket. We checked the dip stick but it looked good, so we started checking the plugs. The second cylinder from the front on the passenger side (#3 cyl?) had alot of water in it. So we shot some fogging oil in it and turned the car over (with coil disconnected) to shoot the oil and water out, then shot some more oil in it and put the plug back in till I figure out what I am gonna do.
Question 1: Is my Temp gauge wrong, or was it really not running that hot. My friend (not the one that drove the car) said its probably the exhaust coming back though to the radiator and thats why it was bubbling. I've never heard of that but i guess it could be true.
Question 2: Whats the best way of going about pulling it down. Should I leave the motor in the car and just pull the top of the motor off or just pull the motor. It has only been in the car for about a year and a half and most of that it just sat (due to gas prices haha), I do have the original motor if I need it.
Does anyone have any tips for me. Maybe other things I should check, or something else I could do to make this job easier.
Thanks for anyones help.

Smog Eliminator
I thinks thats about it.

Well, there are a few things you could do...put an accurate autometer gauge to see what the temperature really is.
Obviously, don't run it like this as you could kill the bearings or worse.
I'd change it in the car. It's not that bad. Just an afternoon hunched over

looks like air got into the cooling system
get the air out and run it then
the white smoke from the tail pipes could just be the coolant burning off
honestly if motor dosnt make any noises and runs normal its probably nothing internal
keep us updated

Will do, it just kinda disapointed me, especially since I wasn't driving or even in the car, wandering if he was treating her bad? He said he "got into it a little bit" but that was it, he also said if it was the head gaskets then he would pay for them and help put them on. A part of me is excited to pull the heads off, maybe I can get them worked while their off, but then again, i have to find the money to do that and fix whatever else is messed up. The local shop said it would be between $500 and $800 to have the heads ported and polished, does this sound right? I have never had any done, or heard any prices on it before.
And does anyone think this could have messed the heads up ?
Thanks for the help guys.
(Yeah, sorry 86 5.0L, its nothing compared to your bad I guess, but it just kinda got to me when it first happened, and I knew this place would be the best to come to for advice so I posted this right after that)

Block tester? Can I get that in the local auto store. Can this be done with the motor still in the car?

yes it can be bought at a auot parts store . The kit come with a chemical and a thing tha tlooks like a turkey basiter (block tester) .you some of the chenicla in the block tester and with the running (usually for a few min ) youput the block test over t filler cap of the radiator . If the chemical in the block test changes color you exhuast is comming in you coolant system throught the head gaskes. Make sure whe you do this test that the coolingsystem is completly topped off you will get a more accurate reading
he has twisted wedge heads

Yeah, just pull the top of the motor. But, if it is going to cost you nearly $800, that's nuts! Throw a few more hundred with it and get some TFs or AFRs.
