Are 428's really that rare? I know theres a torino at a local pick and pull that has one. If its worth something I'll pull it because its only $150 for a complete engine.
They aren't really worth much at all. Now if it is a CJ block with CJ heads then its worth something. 600hp to the wheels would probably have to have a big power adder or a stroker kit. With the stock heads the best you could get to the ground would be 350hp.
actually, a 428 is worth a bit...a good crank (0.020/0.020 over) can get $500 in a heartbeat...
Have you sold a 428, cause I have 4 blocks and the best offer I have gotten for a block is $250. 428's were in alot of cars.
I sold a stock, rebuilt 428 for $2500 5 years ago

thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard...the boss 429 and 427 sohc can make more power from stock heads than any other pushrod head from the factory...that's including all the hemi head's and all c**vy heads....an FE bottom end...460 is more capable of n/a horsepower than any chevy, even the precious 572 with a solid roller cam..you can "like" any engine you want, but dont blatantly say c**vy's are better and make yourself look dumb on a ford forum.
uhh ow my buddy knows whats up.

dont waste your time with a 428, theyre more expensive to build. Go with a 429/460, the blocks are pretty much indestructable, look for a D7TE or D8TE block, its a truck block and has 4 bolt main, thats like icing on the cake. And the 429/460 are pretty much completely interchangable, the only difference in the engines is their strokes. If you find a 429 engine, throw a 460 crank in it and you have a 460, neat isnt it?
