Pulling motor

RE: Pulling motor
just take your time and lable all the little vac lines and stuff.
might be easier to pull trans with it, instead of trying to get to those bellhousing bolts.
dont forget the low oil sensor in the pan

RE: Pulling motor
assuming you have a cherry picker....
get the hood off first (again, make sure you mark it for easy reinstallation)
Get the fan and shroud off.
Make sure the exhaust and driveshaft are completely off.
Once all the wires and vacuum lines are off, your best bet is to use 2 large bolts into the heads to grab your motor. Put one of them in the back of the driver side heads, and one in the front off the pass side head. Each bolt will be holding one side of a chain that will be attached to your cherry picker. Then you can just pull it out. This will be easier if you already have the trans off the car, but taking the trans off is a big pain in the *** as well, so.... your choice.

RE: Pulling motor
Thanks for the tips on pulling my motor. The car will be going to the paint shop in a few weeks and I wanted the engine compartment detailed / repainted. First I have to get all of the rust proofing off of the inner fenders and firewall. What a mess!!
I want to clean up the engine while it is out and replace as many things as I can while it is out so it is easier to work on. Should I have a compression test done before I pull it. I'm hoping I don't need to rebuild the motor just put in new seals and simple stuff. The car has 72K original miles. It still runs very strong and doesn't smoke.
I wish I cuold find a check list of things I should do while it is out.
