Default 347 Stroker Build

Hey guys, I'm building a 347 stroker motor for the first time and have a few questions. This is my set up so far.

*Sportsman Block
*Eagle 4340 Crank
*Eagle 4340 Rods
*SRP Forged Pistons
*Trick FLow Track Heat Heads
*Trick Flow Stage 2 Cam
*Hooker Super Comp Headers
*Canton Pan
*Parker Funnel Web intake
*Demon Carb
*Ford 1.6 Ratio Rockers

Any opinions on the setup? Can anyone estimate power numbers? Do I have to have the block notched for the crank? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Im assuming your talking about the Ford Sportsman block and not the Dart. Well, the sportsman block is pretty much a stock 5.0 block strength wise and putting a forged crank into that block is a waste of money. Same for the rods.

The intake is nice, Parkers are great. Demon carb is great also, but why spend all that money on the bottom end and stick just track heat heads on it? Get some AFR 185's on it and you'll be glad you did, Trick flow cams are nice. Try going with a stg. 3 because it is a stroker and some AFR heads would need the extra lift/dur. to breath better, otherwise most of the 185 heads' potential is wasted.

Id say with that ^^^ setup i just said...id be expecting mid 400's. With a Comp XFI cam or a custom grind, even more.



But with mid 400's, the stock crank/rods are perfect. I mean, the block will break before the rods or crank even get close to being stressed. A stock 302 crank is good to 650+hp. Id say properly prepped, the rods will be good to mid-500horse range.

BUt if your dead set on forged internals, go ahead and break open the piggy bank and get a Dart Sportsman block or Man-O-War block. Im working on getting one right now for my turbo set up.

The AFR's are only rated at .550" max lift. Just the stage 2 cam is over that.

Also the sportsman is not just a stock block, it is simitar but the same. Main caps are much larger.

sportsmans are a good deal stronger than stock, i honestly for the life of me dont know how thise rumor got started, once you see a sportsman up close you'll see the main webbing is much stronger, same with the caps, and several other areas if yuo compared the two

ya i was skeptical at first until i got mine in 2 days ago. the caps are almost 2x as thick and main webbing is much thicker.

5.0 mustang mag just did a big bore short stroke 347 made like 487 HP @ 6300rpm and 471 ft lbs tq @ 5700 or so,, but that using super parts, i hope mine will put down close to 400 at the wheels but being more realistic more like 375 or so, good luck man

The Sportsman block is reinforced in the wrong places. Ford lowered the power rating from 600hp to 450hp for a reason. It will still split and you will be disappointed.

The AFR valve springs are limited to .550 lift, not the heads. Change valvesprings and you're good to go. This is a moot point though because the AFR 185 will flow similiar and make similiar power to the TFS head. They aren't really an upgrade to me.

Overall, since you already bought the block, it's too late now so I wouldn't worry about it. I also wouldn't have bought the good bottom end stuff for it either, but who cares now. The only thing I would definately change is the camshaft. That's a weak choice and is really going to hold you back. It's cheap enough to resell, take your loss and buy a decent cam.

still going with same setup but decided not to spend the money on forged internals. SHould have told ya'll i haven't ordered everything yet. Most is on the way though. If anybody has any more input I would appreciate it.
