I'm looking at a 1989 gt 5.0 with an AOD wont shift into O/D so I need to rebuild the trans.....any ideas for tran rebuild prices, switch to stick or build a nice AOD with stall, manual valve body, etc. 3.73-4.10 gears.....need to know and how expensive is it to get a new front fasica for the GT??? thanks

Most likely you will just need a new OD band. It shouldnt be that expensive but if you plan on rebuilding the trans some time in the future now would be the time since it will be all opened up, etc. You can get really good rebuild kits from Performance Automatic to handle decent power (400-500 depending on what you buy). Also, just call local shops and tell them what you will be doing and how much they will charge so than you can get a good idea. But to be totally honest, I already priced it out for my AOD and by the time I got the trans built to handle 450hp plus installation fee for like a hundred or two more you could buy a nice street/strip AOD from Lentech. Also, I would consider getting a nice converter while you are at it too. Most poeple like to run 3000 for the best SOTP feel. I ran a 2800 in my AOD in my 88 and didnt feel too much of a difference. With gear ratio's, it depends on what you use the car for. I like 4.10's if your keeping it na especially since you have an automatic but there are many people with many different opinions. It all depends on what your plans are for the car, keeping it NA or running a power adder, how much highway driving you do, etc. Also, for the front bumper. Check out some restoration websites for Mustangs like yearone.com, 50resto.com, etc. They will have them there with decent prices.

Definitely sounds like the OD band. It happens to most of them including mine.
It cost me $955 to have mine rebuilt.

www.ford-aod.com the guy quoted me a package deal for $621 and said it would hold 600bhp which included clutchs, hardned input shaft, a+ servo, 2" OD band, filter and seals. not sure if im going to have a shop do the rebuild or just have my friends and i do it. we'll see how lazy i feel

^^ Are you sure they are still in business ? They havent updated their website in over a year....

Anyway, thats awsome that they powdercoat the trannies red for $150... I know its pretty much a waste but if Lentech offered that I would do it... it would look super good
