Looking for recomendations for a carb buld up
Hello all, I am new here but getting up to speed quickly.
I am currently building a 1985 GT and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding intake manifolds, carbs and a cam. I have been leaning toward an Edelbrock Performer RPM with an Edelbrock Thunder Series 650CFM Carb. I am still looking to pick up some GT40P heads (I assume the ports will line up with the manifold) and I am unsure of the cam grind I want but I have heard good things about the x303 which has a 510/534 In/Ex lift and a 222/232 @0.50 In/Ex duration. The car will have full length headers with 1 5/8" primary and 2 1/2" shorty H Pipe with high flow Cats into a 2 1/2" flowmaster cat back. The block is an unbored 302, stock forged pistons were 8.4:1, but I will likely step up to 9:1 or greater (I believe the combustion chamber of the GT40 heads is the same as stock so the compression ratio will be unchanged unless I have them milled). I figure with those mods I should be making 300+HP (stock was 210) with a power peak just south of 6000RPM.
My question is, are my estimates correct and do any of you have any changes you would make to bring out more HP from a carburated 1985 mustang.

RE: Looking for recomendations for a carb buld up
I have a 306 9.5:1cr weiand xcellerator intake with edelbrock 600 carb, ported GT40P's, longtube headers, flows, and stock roller cam. It's a good cheap combo and with 3.73's I can take out my friends 06GT with 4.10, a CAI and diablo tune, magnaflow axelbacks. I think your choice of a xcam is a bit much. The B might be a better choice unless you really like the cam lope. People will tell you to go with AFR 165's for heads though. Which is a good idea if you have the $ to do it.
EDIT: bah I had my cams mixed, I was thinking of the Zcam profile instead of the xcam. [:'(] I should ask if your going 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers? I believe that 1.7 roller rockers the Ecam is the biggest you can go with stock pistons so that would put the xcam out anyway.
