If you can go with the Stage 1 TF cam and 1.7s i would say go for it, neither cam is THAT expensive seriously... cams are cheap

Ok as far as emissions i live in AZ with emission testing and i had a stage 2 and passed emissions. I sold that cam because it was wayyy to big not i have a stage 1. It passed with flying colors, and the guy stalled my car twice during the test.

Wow, if you passed with a Stage 2 in your car then yeah the Stage 1 shouldn't be a problem at all. Your even making think a little bigger on my cam selection now

Sorry to go off topic a little, but will a stage one cam and 1.7's work without notching the pistons?
Thanks

NO!! That brings up a good point... I could say yes it "should," but I'm not going to buy a new motor for you if you smack a valve.....

No one yet has mentioned that piston to valve clearance should be checked for anything close to .530+ (AFR and TFS both confirmed this in emails I sent to them).

If you run 1.7 RR's on either cam, you'll probably need longer pushrods. I ran into that problem on my E cam w/ 1.72's....just bought 1.6's and have to get them on this week.

If you already have the E cam, I would just stick w/ it. I've thought about swapping to the Stage 1, but in reality it won't be that much gain in HP for all the work involved in the swap. I would go w/ the stage 1 if I had another motor or had it to do all over agian, though. I like the split lift and duration....that's something the letter cams don't offer and it eliminates the need for different sized rockers on int/exh.

FYI...
E w/ 1.7's = ~.529 (.535 w/ 1.72's)
Stage 1 w/ 1.7's = ~.530 int/.542 exh

I ran the Stage 1 cam in my car before I started taking it apart and it

-Sounds good

-Passes emissions with flying colors

However, my opinion there is not much of a difference from the E cam so dont bother.

Does anybody have a sound clip of a TFS1? I'd like to hear it.

I'd like to hear this cam too. Anyone???

Also, was it said that the Trick Flow Stage 1 w/1.7 would or would not have p/v issues with E7's or GT40 cast irons?

I contacted Trickflow about using the Stage1cam in my car(Milled .030 E7 heads and 1.7 RR) and they told me to check P to V clearance...and that was stock size, small valves. Not saying it wouldn't work, but just keep in mind the minimums clearances .080 intake and .100 exhaust(told by Trickflow) but I would definitly consider checking P to V clearances eitherway...
