Default starting issues

Hey guys I need some help. My mustang was sitting in my girls garage for about 6 months. I went to go start it the other but the battery was stone dead. I tried to jump it but whenever i turn the key smoke pores out off the battery terminals. I replaced the starter selinoid and that didnt help. Put for the hell of it i put the positive end of the jumeer cable right on to the wire leading directly to the starter and all i got was sparks. Should this have happened or should I the starter should have tried to spin? Im very confuzed and need some help. Give me any advice you can guys. Thank you.

buy a new battery.... well if the negative jumper was on the battery and the pos on the starter you probably wern't getting a good ground and bypassed the starter solenoid, buy a new battery and clean all your contacts and connections. get the old battery load tested
