ok, long story short, my wiring harness went up in flames for the second time in less than a year. right under my battery there is a 4-5 inch gap in the harness where the fire was. now i brought the car to the same place that did the wiring last time this happened and rather than trying to match up the burnt and melted wires to just replace the portion that had lit up, he's gonna replace the whole front half of the harness. My question is does anyone know of a place i can get a front clip harness for an 86 gt? or any other suggestions are appreciated

 

Get a new harness and take it somewhere else... That sucks about the fire. Fires are NOT good! You should also invest in a extinguisher

 

they said something about a fusable link or something that is connected to the chassis of the car that should burn before the harness does to prevent that sort of thing. does anyone know more about this?

 

Not sure but if this is the second time your harness has went up I would look into a whole new harness. Im guessing that your taking about the engine harness? If so, you should be able to get one for cheap!

 

+1 and i wouldnt trust going back to the same garage,that did it the first time

 

go to the junk yard and get a new wireing harness for real cheap and it will save u time

I was lookin at them today when i was up at summit, and wow, they are pricey. But i guess they are worth it.

 

I would find out what is shorting out and burning up the wires. Are you overloading the factory wires with additional aftermarket accessories tapped into the harness?
