Correlation--oil pressure and engine health?
I've been wondering: What is the correlation between oil pressure and engine health. Specifically, is it likely to have a car that was not taken care of that has good oil pressure? If a car was dogged, such that it consumes oil, is it likely to have low oil pressure? I ask because mine uses a decent amount of oil, yet has over 50 lbs of oil pressure when hot. Thanks.
what drives your oil pump???....i was trying to help ya understand that you can burn the **** out of oil from poor ring seal and still have great oil pressure
just think about it this way man. The oil pressure in your motor is not created by the oil pump, it creates flow. Just like a water pump. What creates oil pressure is your clearances in you motor. The larger your oil clearances, the lower your oil pressure; therefore, worn parts and high oil clearances creates low pressure. It in no way correlates with oil consumption.
ok then explain to me when a cam "walks due to worn bearings?....yes i did neglect to say resistance, but if you have no oil pump then where's your oil pressure....remember foxes are double hump pans but rely on rear sump scavaging...so when you rev the motor you speed up the pump which increases resistance...
resistance is made within the motor not pump. if you run the pump straight up u create no pressure, just flow. Only when you try and force the oil into small areas does it create pressure. Speeding up the pump does not increase resistance only flow. They are not the same thing. Just like voltage and current are not the same when dealing w/ electrical
you aren't getting what I'm saying. If all of your oil clearances wer like an inch and u still had a pump u would have no oil pressure becuase the pump doesn't flow enough to create pressure in that large of a tolerance; therefore, it is not the pump that creates the pressure only the flow
