Default transmission problem??

ok so my dad and i were trying to get the transmission to shift better, ever since we put the 4.10 rear gears in the shifting has been different..so i tried to fix it by adjusting the transmission cable under the throttlebody (my car is an AOD) and now after it shifts into overdrive it just slows down and acts like neutral gear....whats wrong with it?...we've beeen adjusting the cable back and forth tryign to get it right and it doesnt change anything now...

k, here is what I get out of what your saying. You put in new gears, then it shifts a little different. You tried to adjust the shifting by adjusting the TV cable on the throttle cable bracket. Now, you don't have overdrive, right?

You do know that if you jack around with the TV cable and get it out of adjustment bad enough and then drive it pseduo hard, you can burn the transmission up quickly. If I'm right about what you said, then I would pull the dipstick out and smell it and make sure that it doesn't smell like sewage. Good luck man.

What color is your tranny fluid, seems to me like you burnt up your OD band. You might try and get it flushed.

It does sound like you burned up the od band, drives just like my wifes bird when the trans went, it can be fixed with mostly likely a soft parts kit and a new band, as long as you didnt hurt the drum. The trans will have to come out and visit the tranny shop. And DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT do a flush, it is one of the worse things you can do to a transmission, Most rebuilds I have done as of late have been due to a flush. It packs the crap right back into the transmission filter and various other places. Then have the Transmission shop do the adjustments by pressure( The only way to properly set an AOD) and do a shift kit while your at it. Depending on parts nedded I have seen them range from 650 to 1400 incl. parts and labor, 1400 being an damn near wasted unit, the only thing good was the case and the output shaft...

the transmission IS burn up.because we smelt the tranny fluid..and it smells burnt..like someone said earlier....so ill probably put a 5-speed in it..we have 2 5-speed transmision sittin inside an 84 mustang 5.0 in the bakyard...one of them is a tremec t-5 and the other is just a stock t-5......we think that they might need rebuilt....but how can you tell if they are in working condition without having it installed on a car?
